Mr. Mitchell rarely missed a Sunday worship service even when age and frail health slowed him down. He is remembered for his fervent and sincere prayers during the Sunday School assembly which was a part of the Sunday morning program in those days. Having no children of his own, Mr. Mitchell considered the children of Smith Church to be his and often expressed his love for them.
Mrs. Mitchell served God and Smith Church in her quiet way, staying primarily in the background. However, her faithfulness did not go unnoticed; her contributions were recognized by the United Methodist Women who presented her with a life membership.
