Smith United Methodist Church

Thurman came to Smith Church after graduating from high school upon the invitation of Robert Lee Powell and his family. He became a member at that time and continued until his death. He served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Building Fund treasurer, Trustee and Chairman of the Finance Committee as well as Youth Leader and Lay Leader. Thurman is probably best known for his role as advisor and counselor to the boards, committees and pastors.
