Janie Mae Hale Askew
April 7, 1932-July 8, 2008
Janie joined Smith UMC when she married Thurman in 1949. In her younger years when she did not drive, the women of the Church would give her a ride so she could help out with the youth events and church suppers. She attended Sunday School and was a member of the UMW and was also secretary of the Board of Trustees. Among her fondest memories of Smith Church were the times spent with the youth groups and attending the annual UMW picnic hosted by James and Doris Leake.
