Smith United Methodist Church

Mr. Cooke served as church steward and in that capacity visited members who did not attend church regularly and requested money to help in paying the budget. He often helped with maintenance work on the grounds, cemetery and church building. His children remember his weekly trips into Roanoke Rapids with his wagon to sell produce from his garden, no doubt to help on the Smith Church budget! He was a charter member of the United Methodist Men.

Mrs. Cooke helped with many activities, especially contributing food to church suppers and fundraising events.
